FOCUS ON GOD NOT MEN

TOPIC: FOCUS ON GOD NOT MEN
Text Area Covered: 2nd Samuel chapter 1-5
Where to Read: 2nd Sam 3:6-39; 4:1-12

Introduction
If a man’s way is right with God, he will win more and battle less because God will not relent in fighting on his behalf. As a Christian, you need not to battle all as being right with God will bring overall victory.

This was exactly what happened to David after the death of Saul. His enemies were multiplied; Abner, the captain of Saul’s army rose against his future by making Ish-bosheth (Son of Saul) a king over all Israel (2nd Samuel Chapter 2). But David never went after Abner nor Ish-bosheth because he knew his future was in God’s hand not with them. He focused more on God.

Then, God caused an endless enmity between David’s enemies; the king maker and his king and were both slayed without David moving the edge of his own sword. Abner (the one who made Ish-bosheth a king over Israel) later announced David as the true king, before he died.

Questions for Discussion

2. Explain the mindset and actions of David in 2nd Samuel 4:8-12
3. Explain how David mindset and actions were different from others who only focused on men and fighting on David’s behalf

Conclusion
This is exactly what God will do on your behalf. He shall cause endless enmity among your enemies, and those who was once against you shall announce your glory, when you concentrate more on Him than the distractions brought by enemies.

Memory verse:
2nd Sam 3:17:18
And Abner had communication with the elders of Israel, saying, Ye sought for David in times past to be king over you: Now then do it: for the LORD hath spoken of David, saying, By the hand of my servant David I will save my people Israel out of the hand of the Philistines, and out of the hand of all their enemies.
