THEME: 2ND BOOK OF SAMUEL
WEEK: 2
Topic: Don’t be zealous without knowledge
Text: 2nd Sam. 6:1-10

Introduction
It is a good thing to be zealous but it is best when it is complements with knowledge. Zeal will set a man on motion but knowledge will caution him of trespassing. When the Ark of God was being brought from Baalah of Juda by David and his men with sounds of instruments, Uzzah wanted to stabilize the Ark of God because it wanted to fall at the threshing floor of Nachons but the anger of God burned upon him and he died there.
What killed Uzzah? God or the Ark? It was his zeal with lack of knowledge. Though, Uzzah’s intension was good (for he did not want the Ark of God to fall) but knowledge should caution him that only the Levites have the right (are safe) to bear the Ark of God while others should keep distance, as been instructed by Moses in their law. (Joshua 3:3-4; Deut 31:9; 1Chron.15:2)
Question for Discussion
1. Explain what is meant to be zealous without knowledge. (Proverbs 5:23; Hosea 4:6)
2. In what way do you think people’s zeal lead to error just like Uzzah in this our contemporary time? See Galatian 4:18
3. What other hazards can lack of knowledge cause to Christians?
CONCLUSION
Zeal without knowledge causes error. A man full of zeal without knowledge can be liken to a car accelerating without a brake. This can be fatal.
